Does the SEC have a dynasty?

July 17, 2011 9:06 am

The South Eastern Conference has won the last five BCS National Championships in a row and four different teams have won the last four in a row. Since the BCS Era began, the SEC is the only conference undefeated in the Championship Game with a record of 7-0. It also has the most championships and the most teams with championships. The conference with the second most national championships is the Big 12 with 2 wins and 5 losses. The other four conferences are each 1-2 in the National Championship Game.

Dynasties are typically defined by teams that dominate their sport. In college football, a dynasty can be a team that either dominates their conference or dominates on the National Stage. This team has won multiple national or conference championships either in a row or in a short period. Since the SEC is not a "team" and hence cannot dominate its conference, it has as a unit dominated the national scene in the BCS ERA. They have 7 of 13 BCS National Championships and have won 6 of the last 8. It must be noted, an SEC team, the Auburn Tigers, was undefeated in 2004 and left out of the championship game.

The most identifying characteristic of a dynasty is multiple championships in a row. No Conference in History has had 4 different teams in a row win a title. According to the...to continue reading article and to vote, please click link below!

Should the current run by the SEC be considered a dynasty?

The 'So You Think You Know Football' Pick Em

December 10, 2010 12:58 am
Edited on: December 10, 2010 12:59 am

Ok so Gatorspwn has got us the SEC Pick Em going, so I thought I would everyone test everyones knowlesge on the rest of the college football world and see if you know more about teams than just in the SEC (unlike me). So I chose 9 interesting non-SEC related bowl matchups for everyone to pick the winner of. Put the team you think will win in BOLD and the final score along side of it.
When the bowl season is over, I will then take the posters who tied with the best record and compare to each other to see who was closest to the actual score. The closest prediction gets a point, and I will do that to each game. That is the tie breaker. If another tie breaker is required it will be total combined yards in the last matchup I post. Heres an example using my actual picks (I will not count mine seeing how I picked the matchups):

(Teams on left are favored)

Air Forice vs Georgia Tech 31-28
W Virginia vs NC State 20-16
Missouri vs Iowa 27-21
Southern Methodist vs Army 30-24
Miami vs Notre Dame 33-27
TCU vs Wisconson 23-17
Baylor vs Illinois 28-20
Texas Tech vs Northwestern 37-31
Stanford vs Virginia Tech 26-24 (Total combined yards: 544
